What Is Sherut Leumi?

Sherut Leumi is a national service alternative to military enlistment for religious young adults ages 17–24. Through meaningful placements, Sherut Leumi participants gain professional experience, deepen their connection to Israeli society, and discover new strengths, values, and passions.

About The Program

Over 200 young women from across the globe currently serve as Bnot Sherut Bodedot (Lone National Service Volunteers), contributing to Israeli society through a wide range of placements, including hospitals, schools, programs for individuals with special needs, Magen David Adom, government offices, tour guiding, and more.

The Bnot Sherut Bodedot Program, administered through Nefesh B’Nefesh, walks alongside these dedicated volunteers every step of the way – offering guidance, advocacy, and mentorship. From acclimating to life in Israel to providing Shabbat hospitality, creating social programming, and navigating bureaucracy, we aim to empower each participant for a meaningful and fulfilling year. Workshops and learning days (Yemei Iyun) address life skills such as budgeting, self-care, while giving care, and planning for the future, including higher education and career exploration in Israel.

Throughout the year, Lone Bnot Sherut will engage in special Ori programming – volunteering, building connections with Israelis from all walks of life, and contributing to a stronger, more unified community. This initiative is named in memory of Ori Ansbacher z”l, a young woman remembered for her boundless kindness, generosity, and remarkable ability to see the light and goodness in everyone around her. Ori tragically lost her life in a terror attack during her National Service. Through the Ori program, we aim to honor her legacy by empowering Lone Bnot Sherut to serve in her spirit—uplifting others, fostering unity, and continuing her mission of giving.
