Thank you for partnering with Nefesh B’Nefesh for this year’s Yom Ha’atzmaut. With this program we hope your students will continue to grow in their connection to Israel and the people who live here.

Wishing you and your students a Happy Yom Ha’atzmaut!

Goal:

Students will build their connection with Israel by exploring and appreciating the decisions that have been made to create the state, the soldiers who defend Israel every day and identifying their support of the Jewish state.

Part I

On Yom Ha’atzmaut, American high school students will write postcards to soldiers, supplied by the Zionist Education Initiative & Nefesh B’Nefesh Lone Soldier Program, sharing their appreciation, support, and well wishes.

The Nefesh B’Nefesh lone soldier program services 4000 lone soldiers from over 70 countries. The Lone Soldier Program acts as the address for every Lone Soldier in Israel before, during, and after their service in the IDF. Providing resources, support and guidance for a successful IDF service and acclimation to life in Israel.

Part II

Classes will view Israel successes through three different lenses. Students will discuss after each video how each version of success fits in the Zionist narrative.

Success in Humanitarian Aid

Prompts: Does Israel have a responsibility to help the world?

Should Israel use its soldiers and funds to help the world?

How does helping the world fit into Zionism?

Success in Cultural Diversity

Is Israel made stronger or weaker by having a diverse population?

Does Israel’s diverse population unite or divide the Jewish people?

Would you rather live in a more like-minded Israel or a more diverse Israel?

Stays with you forever

What makes Israel special to you?

Where do you feel most connected to Israel?

How do you express your connection to Israel in America?
