CAFE OLEH FAQs

Cafe Oleh is an hour-long virtual class (Zoom) on the Hebrew language that takes place every Monday. The teacher, Jay Rosen, selects a new topic each week and gives a frontal lecture using vocabulary that is relevant to the topic. Participants are able to ask questions in the formal Q&A section of the Zoom webinar, as well as suggest new topics for future classes. These sessions are all recorded and uploaded to the Cafe Oleh YouTube playlist, so people can watch it on their own time, whether they missed it or watched but want to rewatch.

Cafe Oleh Conversations is an hour-long virtual conversation-based session (Zoom) based on the previous Monday’s topic and vocabulary. Jay implements Zoom breakout rooms, which allows the participants to actually see and speak to one another, practicing the Hebrew they learned two days earlier. Jay is there to provide feedback and facilitate the conversations. These sessions are not recorded and are only available live.

You do not necessarily need to join the Monday session in order to participate in the Wednesday session, though we encourage you to join if you can, as the Wednesday sessions are based on the Monday sessions’ vocabulary. If you’re unable to join the Monday sessions live, you can always watch a recording of it in preparation for the Wednesday sessions.
