Shomriya is located in the Regional Council of Bnei Shimon, northeast of Lehavim. In the year 2006, eleven remaining families of this secular kibbutz were compensated by the goverment to leave so the kibbutz could be turned over to Gush Katif evacuees. In 2012, families began moving from caravans into permanent homes. Today Shomriya is a religious community that is run as a “kibbutz mitchadesh”. The yishuv has its own religious-educational institutions and a Rav of the community.

Residents of this city benefit from a  Periphery Income Tax Break on salary earned, after having resided in the community for one year.
