Driver’s License
Conversion Made Simple

Need to convert your foreign driver’s license in Israel? Olim Al Hakvish makes the process simple, convenient, and stress-free. Hosted at Nefesh B’Nefesh in partnership with Misrad HaRishui, this on-the-spot license conversion center provides hands-on guidance and real-time assistance to help Olim transfer their foreign driver’s license or receive approval to take a driving test. Skip the confusion, avoid the runaround, and complete the process smoothly in one place, so you can get on the road faster and with confidence.

Please make sure to have all the following documents with you at the appointment to ensure a smooth conversion process:

  1. Teudat Zehut (original card)
  2. Teudat Oleh/Zaka’ut (original book)
  3. Valid full, unrestricted driver’s license (original card)
  4. Sufficient driving history documentation to reflect continuous possession of a valid license for the 5-year period prior to your Aliyah date (e.g., copies of previous drivers’ licenses and/or letter from DMV of the applicable State verifying applicants driving history, etc.)

Eligibility:

Open to all Olim (not limited to Nefesh B’Nefesh Olim) who meet these criteria:

  • You are within five years of your Aliyah date.
  • You must hold a physical valid, unrestricted foreign driver’s license.
  • The license must have been issued before your Aliyah date.

An Oleh who lived in Israel for more than five years before making Aliyah may not meet the eligibility criteria and should contact our Government Advocacy Team via email at [email protected] or by calling *3680 for further review.

What Service Are You Eligible For?

Eligibility depends on how long you’ve continuously held a full, unrestricted driver’s license before making Aliyah, without any gaps in licensure:

0-2 years prior to Aliyah:
You will be required to take a written theory test and a road test (מבחן שליטה). You will NOT need to take 28 driving lessons (saving thousands of Shekels).

2-5 years prior to Aliyah:
You will receive authorization to schedule a road test (מבחן שליטה) with a driving instructor of your choice.

5+ years prior to Aliyah:
You will receive a temporary Israeli license, which becomes valid upon payment.
