Dental Hygienists

Overview of the Profession

Dental hygienists play an important role in Israel’s oral healthcare system, working alongside dentists to provide preventive care and promote long-term oral health. Dental hygienists are employed in private dental clinics, public health clinics, Kupot Holim (health funds), community health centres, and educational settings. With growing awareness of preventive dentistry and increasing demand for oral healthcare services, qualified dental hygienists have strong employment opportunities throughout Israel.

Licensure Process

You will be required to submit various documents directly to the Ministry of Health in order to receive licensure.

Verification of Documents

• Verified with an apostille after having the original document notarized (recommended).
• Bring it to an ISRAELI notary and have them notarize it.
• A verified copy (אימות העתק, Imut He’etek) at the Israeli consulate.

You must submit the verified copy plus an additional photocopy of the original document. Always keep the originals for yourself, as well as a photocopy of the verified document.

Please Note: Only after the documents are approved by the licensing department will your file be transferred to the dental division. The dental division is responsible for the testing of dental hygienists.

Exam

The dental hygienist’s exam is given twice a year. If at least five English-speaking Olim are taking the exam at a given time (which is rarely the case), the exam may be translated into English. Otherwise, the test will be administered in Hebrew, but Olim are permitted to bring a dictionary and will receive extra time. In addition, one of the proctors for the exam is usually able to help translate a question, if needed.

Please note: One can work as a dental assistant without a license, but not as a dental hygienist. All paperwork may be submitted pre-Aliyah, but the license will only approved once you make Aliyah. If you, unfortunately, didn’t pass the exam and think that you have reason to submit an appeal, please follow the instructions delineated here.

Misrad Haklita Reimbursement for Documents

The Ministry of Aliyah and Integration is offering a retroactive reimbursement of up to 4000 NIS to Olim who were required to translate and/or notarize documents for the purpose of transferring their professional license in Israel. Please contact your local Misrad Haklita office for more information.

Please note the following conditions:

• This can be done ONLY AFTER completing your Aliyah.
• The reimbursement is only retroactive for 2 years prior to your date of Aliyah.
• Only Olim who have not yet reached retirement age are eligible.
• Reimbursement can be made only for Israeli notary/consulate verification with original receipts (or verified copy) . Apostille is not reimbursable!

Misrad Haklita also offers a reimbursement (up to 500 NIS) for Olim who took the governmental licensing exam. Your eligibility lasts for 10 years from your date of Aliyah. The reimbursement is ONLY given retroactively and will be paid back ONLY after submitting the receipt for your exam to your local Misrad Haklita office.
