YEAR 1

1. Appreciating the Opportunity

Baruch Hashem, we are fortunate to live in a time when moving to Eretz Yisroel is not only feasible but also facilitated with relative ease and robust support systems. The growing Anglo communities in Eretz Yisroel offer numerous schools and moisdos designed to address the needs and challenges of frum families moving. This creates a wonderful opportunity for a successful and fulfilling transition to life in Eretz Yisroel.

2. Gaining Clarity

Understanding your reasons for making Aliyah and discussing your plans with Rabbanim, family, and mentors can go a long way in laying the foundation for a successful transition.

3. Understanding Aliyah Planning

Familiarize yourself with the four essential aspects of Aliyah, which include the Aliyah process, finding the right schools, choosing a supportive community, and forming a plan for employment (Parnassa).

4. Exploring Pre-Aliyah

The time before your Aliyah is crucial for proper preparation and identifying how to address potential challenges. Use this time to:

  • Connect with Others: Speak with people who have a similar background and have already made Aliyah. Learn from their experiences and gain insights into life in Israel.
  • Set Realistic Expectations: Understand what your life will look like after Aliyah to set accurate and realistic expectations.
  • Engage Your Family: Get your family on board with the idea of living in Eretz Yisroel, ensuring everyone is aligned and excited about the move.

YEAR 2

1. Finding a Community

Research and select a community that aligns with your family’s Hashkafa and needs, which is key to successful integration. Consider factors like proximity to employment, schools, shuls, and amenities.

2. Schools

Choosing the right school that can provide the necessary environment and resources is vital for a smooth and healthy integration. With so many fantastic Olim-friendly schools available, the process can take time and require patience. Coming on a pilot trip to visit schools, meet the faculty, and speak with parents, who send their children to the school, can provide the clarity needed to make an informed decision. Seeing the schools firsthand and understanding their environment and resources will help ensure the best fit for your child’s education and well-being.

3. Employment

It’s never too early to start researching and networking for job opportunities. Whether you have a specific field in mind or are exploring the broader Israeli job market, gather as much information as possible and make valuable connections. By reaching out and speaking with people to familiarize yourself with the employment environment in Israel, you will gain a significant head start when you are ready to make Aliyah.

For any questions regarding employment please email our employment dep. at: [email protected]

4. Pilot Trip

Coming on a pilot trip, if possible, will give you a firsthand look and understanding of life in Israel. You’ll meet people in person, visit schools firsthand, and get a true sense of what day to day life in Israel looks like. Getting this firsthand experience puts your research and information into context and will help you set realistic expectations for Aliyah. Our Its Shayech Pilot Trip Guide can assist you in planning your pilot trip

YEAR 3

1. Aliyah Process

Approximately 8-10 months prior to your estimated Aliyah date, open a Nefesh B’Nefesh Aliyah application – you will receive an Aliyah advisor to guide you through each step of the Aliyah process.

For assistance with filling out the online application over the phone please email our Aliyah Engagement Team at: [email protected]  or call: 1866-4-254924

2. School Registration

Olim-friendly schools can be accommodating with flexible registration for Olim. However, aim to register by February/March to secure your spot and ensure that the necessary resources are in place.

3. Confirm Housing

Many communities in Israel experience rapid rental turnover rates. Depending on the community, searching for an apartment more than 3 months prior to Aliyah may not be relevant as many apartments will only become available closer to your Aliyah date. Knowing your desired location and community choice ahead of time will make your apartment search significantly easier.

4. Finalize Employment Plan

Depending on your plans for employment, the 6-12 months prior to Aliyah can be used to further network, explore opportunities, and solidify your employment plan. Some employers accept applications in advance, and certain professional licenses can be converted before Aliyah. Consult with both Israeli and US accountants regarding tax obligations if you’ll be working remotely for a US company.
