Position Summary

The Academic Department Chair serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the Business and Accounting Department. The Chair is responsible for overseeing the delivery and quality of academic programs in alignment with departmental and institutional strategic goals. Responsibilities include faculty and staff leadership, curriculum oversight, and departmental operations.

This position operates under the supervision of the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) and in collaboration with our Vice President. As a member of the administration, the Chair works collaboratively with other academic and administrative units to support institutional initiatives and promote student success. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Department Leadership

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to develop and sustain a long-term vision for the department aligned with our departmental and institutional missions. 
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the department and other institutional departments and offices.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with College, University, System, and State policies, procedures, and regulations.

Curriculum and Academic Programs

  • Oversee curriculum development, review, and revision within the department.
  • Assess and evaluate the effectiveness and quality of academic programs.
  • Develop and implement new academic programs, initiatives, and projects as appropriate.

Department Operations

  • Manage course scheduling to effectively support student and program needs.
  • Coordinate faculty teaching assignments.
  • Review and update departmental information published in the College catalog and related materials.

Personnel Management

  • Recruit, appoint, supervise, and support faculty.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for faculty and staff members.
  • Promote professional growth and development opportunities within the department.
  • Address and review faculty and staff grievances in accordance with institutional policies.

Faculty Responsibilities

  • Facilitate at least three courses 
  • Participate in research and scholarly activities within the discipline.
  • Support and participate in community service initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of departmental academic programs, policies, procedures, operations, and management.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administration.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Qualified candidates must possess:

  • An earned doctorate in a business related field
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within educational institutions.
  • Evidence of successful teaching and instructional effectiveness.
  • Excellent communication and human relations skills.
