Write Your Heart Out, Your Whole Truth
In Writing Down the Bones, Freeing the Writer Within, Natalie Goldberg says: “Write what disturbs you, what you fear, what you have not been willing to speak about. Be willing to be split open.”
Ask yourself: are you willing to be split open? What does that even mean? Why is it easier for some writers to tell all, while others hold back? How can we write our secrets? What happens if we write them, and what happens if we don’t? Is it okay to write about members of our family who are still alive? Whose voice do we hear in our heads when we write? Whose do we fear? These are some of the questions we will discuss throughout our time together.
Whether you’re an experienced writer or just starting out, this class will provide a safe, supportive environment for you to explore the buried, hidden, secretive stories and themes of your lives whether from early childhood or more recently. Each week we’ll read works by published writers and write and learn how to thoughtfully critique each other’s work. It is generative and open to all levels.
Sundays from 10:00-11:30 on October 19 and 26, November 2 and 9
