Jerusalem, Israel – The Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem announces Festival Totzeret HaAretz (פסטיבל תוצרת הארץ), an immersive cultural experience that celebrates the remarkable continuity between ancient Near Eastern traditions and today’s thriving Israeli craft spirit movement. Taking place August 28-29, 2025, this unique festival reveals how contemporary Israeli distillers are preserving centuries-old practices using the same indigenous ingredients that have flourished in this region for millennia.

FROM ANCIENT WISDOM TO MODERN CRAFT

Throughout history, alcohol production has played a vital role in Middle Eastern culture—from religious ceremonies to medicinal uses and food preservation. Today’s Israeli craft distillers continue this rich heritage, creating exceptional spirits from native plants like pomegranates, dates, carob, and wild herbs that have grown in this land since Biblical times.

“What’s extraordinary is watching modern Israeli craftspeople rediscover traditional methods their ancestors used,” explains Museum Director Dr. Risa Levitt. “They’re creating spirits that would be recognizable to people who lived here thousands of years ago, yet with a distinctly contemporary Israeli character.”
