60-year-old Richard Cohen embarks on trans-America run to raise money for Nefesh B'Nefesh and United Way IERUSALEM - Richard Cohen, a 60-year-old Jew from Atlanta. Ga., has decided to infuse purpose into his recent financial downfall by running across America to raise money for two causes that are close to his heart. "Running Richard" will run 20 miles per day for 117 days, traversing 2,340 miles on foot in an effort to raise money for Aliyah organization Nefesh B'Nefesh and USAbased charity The United Way. Cohen came up with the fundraising initiative, called "20 at 60," following the loss of his business due to the recent financial crisis. He decided to raise money for United Way's new 2-1-1 program, which helps support unemployed baby boomers who have few opportunities to rejoin the work force. Tapping in to his Jewish roots, and in support of his son Elyokim's Aliyah last summer, he chose Aliyah organi¬ zation Nefesh B'Nefesh as the second charity that this endeavor will support. "After having to close the family's furniture business in Atlanta, I decided to respond to my financial downfall in a positive way," Cohen said. "I felt that The United Way and Nefesh B'Nefesh were two causes that I really wanted to support, and I'm thrilled to be able to help these important organizations in this way." He embarked on this ambitious undertaking Feb. 14 and over the next few months he will run along the route ofthe 110 highway, beginning in Florida and crossing over seven states, ending in San Diego, Califa.
