JAFI and Nefesh getting along? This week I got an email I thought I would never see: the Jewish Agency for Israel and Nefesh B’Nefesh jointly announcing they would be holding job and aliyah fairs across the United States at the end of October.
If you recall, the two organizations were at war for several years, ever since the upstart Nefesh B’Nefesh began usurping the traditional role of the Jewish Agency by becoming a major player in recruiting Americans to move to Israel.
Eventually, the two reached a deal to work together: JAFI would control the back end of aliyah to Israel, and Nefesh would oversee the marketing of aliyah. The relationship has been tenuous, at best, for the past two years.
Finally, though, it seems they have agreed to co-brand their communications. This week’s email contained the letterheads of both the Jewish Agency and Nefesh. One Jewish organizational insider admitted that the email marked the first instance of a collaboration that was supposed to have happened long ago.
“Finally they have gotten it together. Aren’t they happy?” the insider said. “This is exactly how it should be.”
