In case you were wondering when this year's would-be-viral Hanukkah videos were going to start circulating, let me say, "ladies and gentlemen...start your engines using enough olive oil for only one day but know that it's likely going to be enough for eight days."
The first major entry of the season seems to be Nefesh B'Nefesh's "Eight Days," which does a good job by giving us something we didn't know we needed - Jewish lyrics to a Matisyahu song. In the song, one Jew picks up a new oleh every day in a different Israeli location, until they end up (spoiler alert!) at the kotel, eight olim, posing for a picture.
True to today's trend of the song mashup (thank you Glee!), this song can be summarized as follows:
"Pass the Candle (Left to Right)" (Hanukkah candles lit in different locations) + "Where the Hell is Matt" (guy dancing in different locations around the world) + "Where in Israel is Jacob?" (Jacob dancing in different Israeli locations) + sufganiyot + Matisyahu (because a Hanukkah video itself isn't Jewy enough until you've got a Hasidic beatboxer as inspiration) = "Eight Days."
All we're missing to ensure this goes viral is a dramatic hamster, a guy singing "Chocolate Rain," and a baby biting his brother's finger.
