Every now and then someone tells me I should expand the scope of my blog. After all, if they like reading what I write about shidduchim, maybe it would apply to what I write about other stuff too?
I’m a drop queasy of opening the vault of things I could write about, especially on a blog labeled quite clearly with “shidduchim,” which is why that’s never happened til now.
But guess what folks! We’re in for an intermission! Cuz this blogger is going to Israel on the Nefesh B’Nefesh flight for the JBlogger Convention.
[Cut away from Snoopy Dance for modesty reasons]
So, for all of you who are a tad bemused:
The JBlogger Convention is a convention for Jewish Bloggers, sponsored by WebAds (the folks behind the Jewish ads you see on other blogs), which takes place in Jerusalem, this year on September 13th.
You can register to attend or to watch it online. And why not register? I’m off to register myself, actually. It should be loads of fun to see all those weird internet types finally dragged from behind their glowing screens and unmasked.
Nefesh B’Nefesh is an organization that helps people make aliya. I mean, so many of us say we’d love to live in Israel but… And the stuff that comes after the “but…” can be summarized as “It’s kinda hard to move to a foreign country!”
Well, Nefesh B’Nefesh is all about eliminating the “but…” They turn aliya into a breeze. All the questions you have about citizenship – they’ve got answers to. Wondering how you’ll move all your worldly possessions across the ocean? It’s part of the NbN care package. Worried about finding a job? NbN is there to help. All the details can be found here.
So, where do I come in? Well, I’m going to be flying on a Nefesh b’Nefesh group flight – meaning, a flight full of olim. It will be an airplane brimming with a dream coming true, hopes for the future, optimism squashing anxiety, and the giddy excitement of finally doing what you’ve always wanted to do ever since seminary, yeshiva, or that birthright trip.
For those of you below the airspace in Queens, you’ll recognize this jet as we fly overhead: it’s the one that glows like a comet from all the emotion crammed inside.
Ohmigosh, this is the most exciting thing that’s happened to me in a looong time. Thank you Nefesh B’Nefesh and WebAds for making it possible. And to Ezzie, whose first nomination made it all happen. And to everyone else who nominated me.
…and to my grandparents, without whom I wouldn’t exist…
