Planeload of olim lands in Israel

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- The first of several flights of North American immigrants expected to arrive this summer landed in Israel.

Some 232 olim from North America arrived Tuesday at Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv on a joint Nefesh B'Nefesh and Jewish Agency charter flight.

Some 3,000 new immigrants are expected to come this summer, including 32 families moving to the North through the new Go North program.

Tuesday's arrivals included Yehudah and Aviva Zuller of Staten Island, N.Y., who named their son Gilad in solidarity with Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier captured one week prior to the infant's birth. Gilad Zuller celebrated his third birthday last week.
