Focusing On Aliyah For The North
In the midst of the conflict in Gaza, 250 North American and British Jews made aliyah last week as part of the Nefesh B’Nefesh program.

The organization, which works in cooperation with the Jewish Agency and Israeli government, has just launched a $10 million campaign to bring more than 1,000 immigrants to Israel’s north over the next few years, thanks to a grant from and partnership with the Russell Berrie Foundation of Teaneck, N.J., as well as funding from Israeli philanthropists and the government in Jerusalem.

Project Go North will allow “modern day pioneers to fulfill their dreams by moving to a region of Israel that is less Westernized and needs the skills, talents and energy they will bring,” said Angelica Berrie, president of the Russell Berrie Foundation. “We see strengthening the north as a vital strategic priority.”

The program will offer “enhanced financial grants, employment assistance, transportation subsidies” and assistance with social needs, according to a Nefesh B’Nefesh statement.
