Can
it really be Labor Day already? Yup, Jerry's preparing by adding an
extra dab of Brylcreem and donning his white socks as the telethon
begins Sunday night on WPHL-TV. Sure, it's easy to kid about Jerry
Lewis, but, after all these decades, he's really been a godsend to his
"kids" and the fans who love him. And that includes you, L-a-a-a-dy!
(as well as
"Stars") ...
Adena Halpern must feel as if she's died and gone to heaven. Well, uh, yeah:
The Ten Best Days of My Life is the focus of the Philly writer's new novel take on what happens
after life. Dunno, but seems the current one's been pretty good for the
best-selling author. ... Monday-night fete ball: That's quite an honor
racked up by WolfBlock partner
David Gitlin, who will be
working this Labor Day in Israel, offering up a seminar on "Going
Private: Should You Remain a Public Company?" all taking place at the
Federation of Chambers of Commerce in Tel Aviv. Sponsoring the
private/public presentation: The Federation of Israeli Chambers of
Commerce and the Israel-America Chamber of Commerce. ... Keep the
faith:

Leonard F. Feldman is the new exec director of the American Interfaith Institute, whose
founder/chair is Irvin J. Borowsky. ... When your kid doesn't know the
difference between a Fig Newton and Newton's Law, maybe it's time to
head over to the
Franklin Institute. The Philadelphia landmark has just been named one of the top 10 science centers for families by people who should know,
Parents magazine. Last time "Stars" was in the institute, he got all clogged up
trying to find his way out of the Human Heart. ... She could have gone
anywhere, but
Rebecca Strober went to Israel. The daughter of
Fred Strober and
Martha Mowry hit the jackpot when she descended from the plane at Ben-Gurion
Airport. The erstwhile Elkins Park resident must have thought she was
in Wonderland when, selected from the crowd of aliyah arrivals, part of
the program sponsored by Nefesh B'Nefesh, she was handed her
citizenship papers during a ceremony at the podium presided over by
none other than Tzipi Livni, Israeli foreign minister. Gee, talk about
personal service. Want to

what happens when she goes to her first Israel Philharmonic Orchestra
program and asks for a chair. ... Don't fence me in: And talking about
immigration --
H. Ronald Klasko, founding partner of those
legal eagles at Klasko, Rulon, Stock & Seltzer LLP, has been
honored as Corporate Immigration Lawyer of the Year. Says who?
Who's Who Legal 2008: The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers says who, and it's the second straight year that they've said it. ... What's on

of worldwide renown will head back home as headliner at the Prince
Music Theater on Sept. 8 in a benefit for the Lubavitch of Center City.
"Stars" is sure Salem knew without being told beforehand that
Stan and
Rhoda Schaffer will be saluted as the benefit's Couple of the Year Award, with
Alex and
Esther Schwartz going home with the Irving and Ida Zaslow Chesed Award. Putting the stamp of success on the evening is also the fact that
Bill and
Carole Stamps, and
Jon Blum and
Fran Freedman are the eve's chairs. ... It'll be lonely in the Lone Star State now that Wharton alum
Michael Levy, who founded
Texas Monthly,
is leaving his post there. Giddy'up! ... The empire -- or is that
umpire -- strikes back! How else to explain a third consec softball
championship for
Ohev Shalom of Bucks County in the Delaware
Valley Synagogue League, where the synagogue has built not only an
empire but a dynasty. (Picture Blake Carrington shagging in the
outfield.) It's a bimah of dreams, too, for the teams that make up the
league, now 20 years old, built on the base first conceived by founders
Goldstein's Funeral Homes and Temple Sinai. What would Harry say? This
Ohev is outta here!
