Resources for parents of Lone Soldiers

We know parents of Lone Soldiers feel a mixture of pride and concern as their child sets off on this exciting journey – and these emotions are amplified by being so far away.

To help bridge the distance and provide an opportunity for parents to understand and be a part of their child’s experience, the Nefesh B’Nefesh/FIDF Lone Soldiers Program has created several ways for parents to stay informed and more deeply connected to their child during their service.

Communication is key, and here are a just a few of the ways
you can connect to your Lone Soldier in Israel.

Through a generous grant from Nefesh B’Nefesh and EL AL Airlines, a limited number of subsidized tickets have been made available for parents of Lone Soldiers whose financial limitations prevent them from participating in their child’s IDF ceremonies.

MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

The Lone Soldiers Program (LSP) sends out a monthly Parent Newsletter. This is a monthly glimpse at the happenings of LSP and the world of Lone Soldiers and the IDF at large.

Each edition features pictures from ceremonies and events, a “Soldier Spotlight,” an explanation of various army terms (in order to encourage and enable parents to “talk shop” with their Lone Soldier children), and a message from one of the Lone Soldier Advisors.

MONTHLY WEBINARS FOR PARENTS

LSP regularly hosts webinars for parents of Lone Soldiers. You are invited to partake in a one-hour webinar aimed at helping parents better understand the draft and enlistment process for a Lone Soldier, benefits allotted throughout their service, and many other topics pertaining to Lone Soldier life in Israel.

SUBSIDIZED FLIGHTS

Nefesh B’Nefesh is dedicated to revitalizing Aliyah by removing or minimizing the financial, professional, logistical and social obstacles that potential Olim face. Working in cooperation with the Israeli government and the Jewish Agency for Israel, Nefesh B’Nefesh assists Olim throughout the entire Aliyah process, from the planning stage to well beyond arrival in Israel. Due to the support and comprehensive social services that Nefesh B’Nefesh provides to its 40,000 newcomers, the organization has not only significantly increased the number of Olim, but also helped ensure their successful absorption in Israel.

In 1981, a group of Holocaust survivors established Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) as a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit organization with the mission of providing and supporting educational, social, cultural, and recreational programs and facilities for the heroic men and women of the IDF. Today, FIDF has more than 120,000 loyal supporters, and 16 regional offices throughout the U.S. and Panama. FIDF proudly offers its support to the IDF soldiers and their families through a variety of unique and innovative programs. These opportunities reinforce the vital bond between the communities in the United States, the soldiers of the IDF, and the State of Israel. www.fidf.org
