Sixth Annual Lone Soldiers ‘Yom Siddurim’

With only one day off per month, it is almost impossible for many soldiers to take care of simple errands such as going to the bank or registering for health insurance. Oleh Lone soldiers do not have the normal support system of family to help them with their to-do lists.

Our Solution: YOM SIDDURIM ‘Errand Day’ – On January 24, 2019 we held our 6th Annual Yom Siddurim, featuring representatives from over 40 organizations, 7 government offices, Misrad Rishui (DMV), and more, who all came together to help lone soldiers from all over the world complete their to-do list  – in one place, in one day.

Nearly 2,000 Lone Soldiers participated, 400+ driver’s licenses were issued, and countless other to-do items were checked off .

Throughout the day some special guests dropped in to say hello and show support for our soldiers, including: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; Ayelet Shaked, Justice Minister; Aryeh Deri, Interior Minister; and IDF Chief of Manpower; Members of Knesset Yoav Galant and Pnina Tamano-Shata; Sylvan Adams;  and Mindy Levine (@thatyankeelady).

But the real VIPS and heroes of the day were our beloved Chayalim Bodedim.

Meet the Team: Noya Govrin

We sat down with Noya Govrin, Director of the Nefesh B’Nefesh Lone Soldiers Program, to discuss her work, Aliyah, and what inspires her about the young soldier Olim she works with.

Noya has been with Nefesh B’Nefesh for the past 15 years, and has been the director of the Lone Soldiers Program since its’ onset in 2012.

Olim of all ages celebrated “the New Year for the Trees” at several NBN Tu B’Shvat themed events across Israel. In Jerusalem Lone Soldiers and Bnot Sheirut enjoyed a wonderful BBQ in the park. In the North, 40 Olim toured, planted and decorated flower pots the at the KKL Nursery at Tzomet Golani. And in the Center 100 Olim came out to celebrate Tu B’shvat in Neut Kedumim. They enjoyed guided tours through the nature reserve focusing on the Shivat Haminim and then each Oleh planted a tree in honor of the Holiday. They also enjoyed a nice festive meat lunch in a Bedouin tent.
