Mitzpe photoMitzpe Ramon is a unique town due to its stunningly beautiful surroundings, perched on a cliff above the Makhtesh Ramon Crater (a World Heritage Site). The town has a population of approximately 5,500 residents, with a mix of veteran locals, artists who moved from the center of country, Hesder Yeshiva families and a small but welcoming group of Olim. This town is ideal for those who are seeking quiet, beautiful surroundings and want to be part of building the Negev.

Local Employment
Residents of the town are employed mostly by local services, work in hotels and tourism related services, or commute to Beersheva, Sde Boker or Yerucham.  In the past decade the tourism industry in town has been on the rise due to the magical location and year round comfortable weather. Some exciting businesses such as McCann Valley and Desert 19 have opened in Mitzpe  Ramon alongside the artists studios, cafe’s . The government has recently converted military land to an agrotourism project and individual families who have proven residency may apply to receive agricultural land. The initial projects are inspiring examples of what may be done to create opportunity in the Negev.

Residents of this city benefit from a  Periphery Income Tax Break on salary earned, after having resided in the community for one year.

Education / Youth
Mitzpe Ramon boasts three elementary schools, two high schools and a Hesder Yeshiva and Midrasha – all known for the quality of their programs which attract students from all over the country. There is a secular grade school and high school which emphasizes academic studies and the arts. The dati leumi torani grade school emphasizes Torah and academic studies as well as ecological studies.

There are frequent buses to Be’er Sheva throughout the day and it takes approximately one hour to get to Be’er Sheva by car or bus.

Amenities / Services
Mitzpe Ramon has a local center that offers after-school courses in drama, sports, arts, singing, etc as well as a municipal pool and a sports center. The local dance company Adamah also has a full program of dance courses both for professional dancers and local residents. The Jazz club is a venue for musical talent from all over the country.  Thanks to the lack of light pollution, Mitzpe Ramon is a majestic location to observe the night sky and the country’s largest Observatory is located on the edge of the town.

The town is located at a height of 900 meters, with a high desert climate. Temperatures are pleasant and there is almost always a breeze. The winter nights can be cold and it has been known to snow here.

Health services are provided by either Maccabi or Clalit health services. The local pharmacy and the emergency services are on call all night.

Community and Religious Life
There are eight local synagogues including Conservative, Sephardi, Ashkenazi, Chabad, and Breslov in addition to the Hesder Yeshiva.
There is a small but growing Anglo-community in Mitzpe Ramon, ready to welcome any newcomers.
