“VeSamachta BeChol HaTov”: Rosh Chodesh Women’s Hike at Sataf

“VeSamachta BeChol HaTov” –  Sefer Devarim.

Join Hiking the Holyland and guide Esti Herskowitz on an uplifting Rosh Chodesh experience in nature for women.  On this 5 kilometer hike, we’ll journey through the Biblical landscape of Sataf, enjoying the rich agriculture, ancient terraces, and beautiful views of Jerusalem.  As we pass through olive groves and terraced orchards, we’ll encounter the long-awaited fruitfulness of the Land of Israel out in nature.

May 30th (29 of Nisan) is the day before Rosh Chodesh Sivan.  In honor of the upcoming Shavuot holiday, we’ll be focusing on the concept of gratitude: both for our personal blessings and for the blessings of the Land of Israel and Jerusalem.

Shavuot is the holiday of Bikurim, when ancient Jews brought their first fruits of the Seven Species to the Holy Temple.  Mid-way through our hike, we’ll stop for a break in a shady spot next to a picturesque olive tree.  Here, we’ll enjoy some of the seven fruits of Israel, in the form of sourdough bread, olive oil, honey, figs, and dates (along with iced coffee!)

Then, we’ll continue down to the springs of Sataf, a place to think about renewal and purity required for the receiving of the Torah.

Treat yourself for Rosh Chodesh, a special day for Jewish women, and feel the joy of gratitude for the beautiful land we live in!
