Sunset Hike Through History at Burgin and Itri
Wednesday, June 15th: Join Hiking the Holyland and expert hiking guide Ben Zaltzman on a sunset hike through history, at Burgin and Itri Ruins in Park Adulam. Explore a well-preserved Biblical city in the midst of a beautiful nature reserve in the Jerusalem Lowlands. We’ll take a peek at underground chambers, burial caves, ritual baths and more as we hear the tale of the two ancient cities.
Together, we’ll walk this moderate, 6.5 kilometer trail in the cooler hours of late afternoon. We’ll hike from one ancient city to the next through the pretty hills covered in golden grass and seasonal wildflowers. During our time in the city, you’ll have a chance to crawl through underground tunnels from the Bar Kochva revolt (if you want to!). Towards the end of our hike, we’ll enjoy sunset from the lookout along with a glass of wine and some snacks. Then we’ll watch the full moon rise in the sky as we journey back towards the trailhead.
Bring snacks, water, and a flashlight. Wear good walking shoes and long pants. This fascinating 4 hour adventure is going to be incredible. Round trip transportation from Jerusalem available for 80 NIS per person.
