Olim Kids - Special School Benefits
School Year 5765 - 2004/5

If you have kids in school, and you made aliyah in the past 3 years, the school (INCLUDING PRIVATE SCHOOLS), is entitled to receive financial support from the Ministry of Education to assist your child.
Following is a letter sent to all school principals advising them of the financial assistance they can request to help olim kids. The sums mentioned in the letter are a one time annual payment. This is not a replacement for regular tuition fees, but an additional sum which is allocated to provide additional educational services for your child.

An English translation of the letter is below.

It is important, that you check with the school, how they are using the allocation for your child. If they are unaware of the allocation, please give the principal a copy of the Hebrew version of the letter. (Click Here)

We very much appreciate the efforts of certain people, who assisted in obtaining this letter.

To the School Authorities
Education Division Heads in the Municipalities

School Principals Supervisors for the Absorption of Olim Students

Shalom!

Subject: Absorption package for olim students with financial participation of the Ministry of Education, for the financing of education expenses in the year 5765

1. The Ministry of Education places great importance on the integration of Olim students in Israeli society. In order to properly integrate them in the schools, a decision has been made to provide financial support for education expenses, eg. schoolbooks, tiyulim, supplemental study materials and cultural studies.

2. Those who are entitled to this support are students who made aliya - either via the Law of Return or the Law of Entry- students learning in schools that are locally accredited, under either municipal or other authorities.

3. The payments will be made according to the data which is found in our office database on the date November 1, 2004 for students who made aliya before August 31, 2004. For students who made aliya after that date, the sum will be paid proportionally at a later date.

4. The payments will be made through the payment system of the local municipalities and to the authorities of the private education system.

The payment for August 2004 was made on Sep. 1 2004, and was for 50% of the allocation.

The payment in November 2003 will include the balance of the allocation.

5. The following is the table of allocations :

Translator's note: Sums are total per oleh student.
Note that students who made aliyah in the past 3 years are entitled to support. Ask the school principal how the money is being used for your child.

The school prinicipals must advise the parents of olim students of the assistance provided by our office, preferably in their mother tongue, and they must ensure that the money is being used appropriately. If the school has collected sums directly from students before receiving the allocations from the Municipality, it must return to the parents that sum which has been provided by the Ministry of Education (Translators note: e.g. If the school collected from your first grade child the sum of NIS 1000 to provide services due to a new oleh, the school must return NIS 626 to you, because this sum is being provided by the Ministry of Education.)

A list of school books and supplemental study materials for olim students are available from the supervisors of olim students in the region, as well as a list of books and reading materials in the language of the home country of the oleh. Books should be purchased in bulk to lessen expenses. The municipality/school authority must complete a report and send it to our office by May 2, 2004 concerning implementation of the above.

Signed,

Amihud Bahat
Head of the Aliya Division
Ministry of Education
