I shipped most of my books by USPS M-bags - they cost around $4/lb and took around 2 months to get here. Its probably the cheapest way to get them here if you're not sending a lift.
some tips if you're going to use them -
1 - pack it in small boxes if you can - each bag has a limit of 50-60 lbs or so
2- pack the boxes tightly and seal em really well - alot of my boxes were broken open by being thrown around so much , so I literally ended up with a sack of (some broken) books.
check USPS site for details of pricing / weight limits.

Hi Gavi,
The best way I know of to send books is via an "M" bag. (M stands for media) I packed my books into boxes and put my address on the boxes. At the post office, you put the boxes in the M bag and fill out a bunch of forms. It's the cheapest way I know of, but it does add up. I've had the boxes show up with the bag and out of the bag, so I really do recommend sealing the boxes and getting your Israel address right onto the box. I learned this way of shipping books from the Tzfat English Library (small but wonderful!); it's how they get donations from the US.
One more thing... M bags can take up to two months to show up. They go "slow boat."
Have a great trip home and an easy klitah!
All the best and chag sameach to all,
Laya
