Rabbi Yehoshua Fass Founder, Executive Director of Nefesh B'Nefesh
After receiving his rabbinic ordination and degrees in biology and education from Yeshiva University, Rabbi Fass moved to Florida as a Judaic fellow in the Judaic Fellows Program. During his tenure within the fellowship program, he touched the lives of hundreds. His lectures and classes were attended by all ages and by all religious affiliations. In addition, Rabbi Fass provided the Jewish Federation and the Jewish Education Commission with such a broad array of outstanding learning opportunities that he was awarded a Rabbinic Leadership award at the United Jewish Communities - General Assembly, Chicago.
A year and a half later, Rabbi Fass assumed the position as assistant Rabbi of the Boca Raton Synagogue, the fastest growing American Orthodox synagogue - only shortly later to be renamed associate Rabbi. As associate rabbi, he was responsible for the pastoral care for over 500 families. For one year during his rabbinate, Rabbi Fass served as acting Rosh Beit Din (Head of the rabbinical court) of the Orthodox Rabbinical Council where he presided over financial litigation, conversions, divorces, and contested wills and estates. During the next four years, Rabbi Fass continued to dedicate himself to teaching and inspiring the south Florida community, as well as being involved in other worthy projects. For five years, Rabbi Fass directed the Helen Julius Reiter Institute of Judaic Studies which taught over 500 students weekly. In addition he has committed himself to the success of the March of the Living, where not only has he participated on two trips to Poland, but has functioned as an educator and religious leader of the Southern Region of North American participants. In addition, Rabbi Fass has been honored to serveas a board member of both communal and national institutions.
After an Israeli relative of Rabbi Fass' was murdered by a terrorist bombing, Rabbi Fass decided to embark on an even greater challenge for Israel and the Jewish people, co-founding and directing a newly founded organization: Nefesh B'Nefesh. Nefesh B'Nefesh is a foundation whose sole mission is to revitalize Aliyah by eliminating the obstacles that prevent and hinder those who dream and will to move to Israel. Rabbi Fass hopes that his efforts to mobilize and enable hundreds of families to make Aliyah, will serve not only as a significant and tangible expression of solidarity between North American and Israeli Jews, but become contagious and ultimately serve as a conscious raising initiative to address and rehabilitate Aliyah.
