Technological Incubators

Technological incubators provide seed money for scientists and engineers in Israel who are interested in developing products in the hi-tech, biotech or environmental spheres. The incubators help entrepreneurs develop their technological ideas and establish a business. Within the framework of an incubators, scientists can receive the following:
• Subsidized premises
• Financial resources
• Tools
• Guidance
• Administrative assistance

The projects are partly funded by the government and partly funded through external sources. The ultimate goal of the technological incubators is to increase Israel’s annual exports.

Within the framework of the incubators, scientists can receive grants or loans that include 85% percent of their budget, or up to $145,000 annually for two years. If the project is unsuccessful, scientists are not required to pay anything back.

The incubators, which are located all over Israel, are not specifically designed for Olim. However, about half of the projects are the ideas of Olim.

MAGNET Program:
The MAGNET program fosters collaboration between companies and research groups, in order to develop new technologies. It is a program run Misrad Hataasiya v’Hamischar (Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor) that distributes grants to companies to sponsor generic, industry-oriented, technological development in Israel. There are four main MAGNET tracks:

  • Consortium: A three to six year program, where industry developers and academy researchers work together to develop basic technologies that are used in upcoming products.
  • Magneton: A two year program, that supports an existing partnership between an academic group and and an industrial company. The purpose is to foster technology transfer between the two.
  • Nofar: A program devoted solely to research, where participants work on basic and applied research that has a business interest (but is not yet directed towards a certain product).
