Rosh Pina

Rosh Pina, a picturesque, historic village, is located on the northeastern slopes of the Upper Galilee mountains overlooking the Sea of Galilee, the Hula valley, Mount Hermon and Golan Heights. Rosh Pina, first established in 1878, has grown and prospered over the years, evolving into the present tourism gem of the Galilee. The Historical Restoration Site and Open Air Museum is an area of beautifully restored and preserved stone buildings that serve as private homes, art galleries, museum, Bed & Breakfast get-a-ways, restaurants and cafes. Rosh Pina is home to farms, wineries, olive-oil presses, home bakeries and herbal medicine & spice farms. The Moshava is a combination of old & new, offering both visitors and residents alike entertainment and relaxation, breath-taking views, beautiful hiking trails in the wadi, fresh and clean air.

“The Stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone” Psalms 118:22
In 1883, Rosh Pina became the first Jewish settlement in the Land of Israel to come under the patronage of the Baron Edmond de Rothschild, who took the village under his wing, built a silk factory, a synagogue (today, restored and open for Shabbat and Chagim), offices, horse stables, a French-styled park (also beautifully restored); and a school was opened, the first in Israel to teach children in Hebrew!

Today Rosh Pina is home to 2,700 Jews of all streams and stripes. The community is diverse, tolerant and vibrant, including a growing number of English speakers and Olim.

Local Employment
Next to Rosh Pina is the industrial area Tzachar, a regional industrial park. Other employment centers include Katzrin, Kiryat Shmoneh, Tzefat, Tiberias and Karmiel. There are a number of tourist enterprises in Rosh Pina, including many privately run guest rooms and bread-and-breakfasts.

Education / Youth
Rosh Pina has government-sponsored daycare centers and Ganim, as well as several privately run Mishpachtonim (daycare in private homes). There is one secular elementary school in town and council-funded transportation for elementary school children who attend religious schools in Tzefat, a 10 minute drive from town. For high school, students have many good, regional options within easy commuting distance, including Tzefat, Kiryat Shemona, Tiberias and the Golan Heights. Most regional schools provide transportation from Galil towns, settlements and kibbutzim. For religious high schools, boys and girls generally board at schools in Meron, Kfar Pines and Tiberias.

Transportation
The vast majority of Rosh Pina’s residents have at least one car. Rosh Pina is growing rapidly, so navigating the town can be difficult without a car. There is no bus service available to transport residents within town though there is sponsored car service for the elderly. The town is by no means isolated: The Rosh Pina Airport has daily, 20 minute flights to Tel Aviv, and there are buses from Rosh Pina to pretty much every destination in Israel. Tiberias and Karmiel are a 20 minute drive away.

Olim Services
Rosh Pina’s community takes pride in a warm welcome and concern for its new residents. Although Rosh Pina does not have an absorption center or formal absorption program, services generally needed by new Olim; Ulpanim, Government offices, including the Ministry of Absorption, can be found nearby, in neighboring Tzefat and Hatzor.

Amenities / Services
Rosh Pina has a lovely historic restoration site in town, with a wide selection of galleries, restaurants, and various tourist services. Right on the outskirts of town, there are state-of-the-art shopping malls.

Rosh Pina has a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, indoor and outdoor basket ball courts, tennis courts, soccer field, an outdoor exercise equipment park and a new indoor fitness center.

Kupat Holim Clalit (healthcare fund) has a branch in town. Maccabi is in Hatzor and Tzefat, and Meuchedet is in Tzefat. There are also several dentists, optometrists, and alternative health practitioners. Nearby hospitals are located in Tzefat, Tiberias, Afula and Haifa.

The Rosh Pina Film Centre (cinematheque) is a non-profit organization serving the residents of Rosh Pina and the surrounding area. The Centre’s goals are to encourage film art in all of its aspects. In addition to weekly screenings of commercial films, for the benefit of residents of the region, the Film Centre runs a number of special film projects: courses in film art (now in its 12th year), study days focusing on films, for schools and various other groups, a festival of films on the theme of environmental quality, a festival of Israeli films, a Marathon of Israeli short films, and evenings of exceptional films from Israeli film schools.

Entrepreneurs and investors benefit from participating in the Z.H.R. (Zefat-Hatzor-Rosh Pina) Industrial Park project. The industrial park is ideally situated by the Rosh Pina airport. Maximum government aid is available to those in Development Area A status, and a five-year municipal tax exemption also serves entrepreneurs as a powerful incentive. The Regional Center for Enterprise Development helps support new businesses and economic projects, and the Z.H.R. helps businesses with employment.

Community and Religious Life
Rosh Pina boasts an active community center (Matnas) with sports, art, music, dance and various other after-school activities for youth. It also offers a wide selection of courses for adults, including lectures and work shops. The town’s library has a fair selection of books in English, to serve the community's needs. The Matnas runs a youth center and community projects for teens.

Rosh Pina has 4 Orthodox synagogues and 3 Mikvaot. There is also a Kollel that offers a wide range of learning options.

Real Estate
The up-and-coming luxury properties in town are the older, original stone houses on Halutzim and those close to the Restoration site. The building conservation trend that has brought about this situation in Israel is seeking the potential in the older sections of various cities and older towns like Rosh Pina. Buyers recognize the unique architecture; love the stone walls, high ceilings, private gardens and the advantage of fewer neighbors. People yearn for a feeling of times gone by. A bit of Tuscany, a little Provence, a good amount of Zionism and you have the perfect combination that is Rosh Pina.

Rentals: Studio apartments, usually added onto private homes with private patio or garden area, rent for 1,500-2,000 NIS per month, 1-2 bedroom apartments range from 2,000-3000 NIS a month.
