Maale Amos


Maale Amos was founded 30 years ago. It is located in the beautiful Harei Yehuda. The lower part of Maale Amos has a fantastic view of the Dead Sea. Going up the hill of Maale Amos you can see the String bridge in Jerusalem. Also visible from Maale Amos is the Old fortress of King Herod (Herodian).
In 1967 Maale Amos was a Jordan Missile base that sent rockets line of sight into Jerusalem. After the war it became a Helicopter base for the IDF. To keep a hold on the area so that it wouldn’t fall back in to the wrong hands, the government decided to make it a Yishuv. It was shortly thereafter settled by some brave souls from Yeshiva Aish HaTorah. Over the Years many people have cycled in and out of Maale Amos. Some of the most noted would be Uri Zohar and Aryeh Deri.

Local Employment
Maale Amos is a Religious Yishuv. Some of the residents learn in Kollel on the Yishuv. Most of the Residents work outside of the Yishuv. The residents hold many positions in and around Jerusalem. We have a resident: Egged Bus driver, Accountant, Nurse, Contractor, Occupational Therapist, Gardner, Rabbis, Teachers, Painter, Architect, Personal trainer, Printer designer, Security specialist, Yishuv Maintence, Maskerah, Home decorator, and many more. The Yishuv has an industrial area at the top that houses currently a Contractor, Welding shop and Storage area.

Education / Youth
The children of Maale Amos learn Torah in small classes (generally less than 10 children), under the auspices of Chinuch Atzmai, and the guidance of caring, gifted Rebbeim and teachers. The Bais Yaakov includes pre-school through eighth grade, with a high-quality extended day program of limudei kodesh, limudei chol, and enrichment course. We have both a girl's gan for ages 3-6 as well as a boy's mechina. Both the Bais Yaakov and the Tamlud Torah are in new modern buildings. The Cheder currently operates 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th grades.

DayCare
We have a fully operational "Puton" center caring for babies from 3 months to 3 years of age. The children receive a hot meal everyday with plenty of attention and early Jewish education. Hours are 8:15 am until 1:30 pm.


Transportation
Egged services the Yishuv in the Morning, Afternoon and Evenings. There is also transportation afforded to the Yishuv from the County government of Gush Etzion. Many residents have their own cars as transportation. From the gate of Maale Amos to Derech Hebron in Jerusalem just past Har Homa it takes 20-25 minutes depending upon the time of day and traffic.

Olim Services
Many of the Yishuv's residents are Olim. We are a like a large family. Many of us can help the standard Oleh with help ranging from how to get special needs help for your children, where to purchase clothes, food, cars, appliances good contractors, etc…. Many of us have been there and done that. If we can't answer your question, then most likely we can point you into the right direction.

Amenities / Services
We are 12 Minutes from Efrat Shopping and top notched American Medical Facilities. A new Rami Levi has opened up at Sumit HaGush just 15 minutes away. The Yishuv has a Leumit office that has Doctor visits twice a week. Traveling past the Yishuv going East in a 4 wheel drive vehicle you can be to the Dead Sea in 30 Minutes and in Engedi in 50 minutes.

Community and Religious Life
Men, women, and children are able to grow spiritually through a variety of formal and informal Torah learning. A kollel operates on the Yishuv under the direction of the Mara D’Asra, Shlita. Regular men’s shiurim are given in Hebrew and English. Women’s shiurim may include Navi, Hilcos Tznius, Tefila, and Hilcos HaShavua. Special shiurim are also given before Yomim Tovim. Every month there is an organized women's Rosh Chodesh Party with speakers refreshments and activities. There is also a yeshiva bein izmanim run for teenage boys during their vacation time.

At your service we have separate Women's, Men's and Kaylim Mikvot.

One large Shul serves the needs of all the Sephardi and Ashkenazi members.


Real Estate
There are great deals on Homes, both rentals and purchases. There currently is a bank repo going for a mere 230,000 Shekel. There are 124 meter homes for 285,000 Nis. There is one 137 meter house for sale for 350,000 Shekels. There are 3 and 4 bedroom rentals for 1200 Nis per month plus arnona. Keep in mind these are mind blowing prices. Once they are sold or rented there are no more. The only option after that is to build.

Neighborhoods
Maale Amos is currently split into 3 sections. There are single family lots (Villas). Townhouse structures (Homes adjoined by one wall). Then there are new lots yet to be built that will house 5 homes on a dunim of land.
The first homes in Maale Amos were tents, we soon graduated to caravans. The next phase of building was Villas from Astrom. Then came 124 sq. meter wooden homes from a company in Canada call Randor. Then homes were brought in as prefab rectangular cubes to form homes. Within all these homes there are lots in which to build custom homes.
