The following is a list of items to bring with you when you go to your Lishkat Hagiyus (drafting office) on the day of your Tzav Giyus (draft notification).

Pack all items in a 60 to 90 liter bag.

Make sure you bring enough toiletries and clothing to last for a two week period.

  • Digital watch with timer (preferably waterproof)
  • Underwear
  • Army socks (gray, white or black ONLY)
  • Undershirts, long sleeve and short sleeve, depending on the weather; colors must be army green or white ONLY
  • Hanging toiletry bag for the shower (the army gives you one but it usually breaks)
  • Towel
  • Toilet Paper
  • Baby wipes (useful for a wide range of clean-up jobs!)
  • Bedding (sheets for single and a mini pillow) or a sleeping bag
  • Snacks and a book (optional )
  • Phone charger
  • Mini locks for your bag (unfortunately, theft can be a problem)
  • Flip flops for the shower
  • Pair of shorts and a shirt, for sports
  • Running shoes
  • Clothing to sleep in
  • Extra layers to sleep in (black fleece, sweatshirt or long underwear), depending on the weather
  • Small change for the Shekem (a store on the base that sells food and drinks)
  • Toiletries for a two week period, including toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, soap, Q-tips, brush, feminine products, clips and hair ties (black only). If you plan to put on make-up on Fridays, when you leave the base, it’s a good idea to bring a small mirror.
  • Teudat Zehut
  • Teudat Oleh
  • Apartment contract (if renting an apartment)
  • Bank information (so the army can pay you)

The army has strict rules regarding the following items. If you break the rule, you may get into trouble – and receive a ticket!

  • Makeup: You are allowed to wear black eyeliner and black mascara with your Aleph uniform (the uniform you wear when you leave the base).
  • Nail polish: You are allowed to wear clear nail polish on your fingernails and toenails, but NOT colored polish.
  • Jewelry: You are allowed to wear one stud earrings in each earlobe as long as they are smaller than a 1 shekel coin. You can also wear one necklace, and one ring per hand – and no more.
